Network for
Economic & Political Democracy

The Voices for the Future conference held in London on April 12 unanimously agreed to launch a Network for Political and Economic Democracy. Present at the conference were speakers from the Fire Brigades Union, MSF/Amicus, the Muslim Parliament, the Institute for Education Policy Studies, the Charter for Basic Democratic Rights and the Movement for a Socialist Future, as well as individuals from the anti-war movement, artists and other creative workers. You are invited to be part of the Network and to work for an alternative beyond New Labour. Regular open meetings of supporters of the Network will take place to plan the implementation of the campaign.

The first meeting is on May 24.

Aims and objectives

To help create the conditions for an alternative to New Labour and the building of a new, truly democratic society, where the right to vote counts, by campaigning for:

  1. A conference of trade unionists, social, community, youth and other organisations and individuals to decide upon alternative political representation
  2. New forms of representative democracy such as Peoples' Assemblies at local and national level
  3. Democratisation of the ownership of economic and financial corporations and institutions
  4. Equal rights and justice for minority ethnic communities
  5. Suspension of financial payments to New Labour by the trade unions
  6. Alliances with movements for social justice in other countries
