Since
leaving college I have used a wide range of found
materials in order to explore aspects of transformation and identity.
Over the past five years I have been working in a similar
way with computers. Each print originates from a digital photograph, or sometimes from
an earlier file, which is used as raw material and then heavily
manipulated using Photoshop until it loses its original identity
and becomes something new. This
process of abstraction often leads me back to images which contain
figurative elements which were not present in the source material.
It is this aspect of the process which fascinates me at the
moment; the idea of capturing, distilling and making explicit some
resonant aspect of place or experience without necessarily representing
it in a literal sense.
